CONCORD—Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted 211-135 in support of SB 142, requiring menstrual hygiene products in school restrooms. The legislation requires school districts to make menstrual hygiene products available at no cost in all gender neutral bathrooms and bathrooms designated for females located in public middle and high schools. SB 142 passed the Senate 17-6 in February.

Prime sponsor Senator Martha Hennessey (D-Hanover) released the following statement after the vote:

“Providing menstrual hygiene products in public school restrooms is long overdue. Cost and stigma can cause a lack of access to these products for New Hampshire students, which negatively impacts their productivity and makes it harder to focus on classes. Today’s House vote in favor of ensuring convenient access to menstrual hygiene products in our public schools is a huge step forward for basic health care and I hope the governor will sign this important bill.”
