CONCORD - Today, the Senate voted in favor of SB 610. The bill establishes a committee to evaluate the transportation climate initiative framework in reaction to the growing necessity of reducing New Hampshire’s carbon emissions.

After the vote, prime sponsor Senator David Watters (D-Dover) issued the following statement:

“Close to half of all greenhouse gas emissions in New Hampshire come from the transportation sector with transportation emissions accounting for around 40% of greenhouse gas emissions in the mid-Atlantic and northeast. If we are serious about combating climate change, we must carefully consider efforts to reduce these emissions.

Nationwide we are seeing states further collaboration between their transportation and environmental services departments to develop policy and programs to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency. When we study the benefits and challenges of possible participation we make progress towards protecting our public health, our environment, and our economy.”
