CONCORD - Today, the Senate passed Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes’ (D-Concord) bill SB 692-FN, also known as the Granite State Ratepayer Protection Act. The bill ensures New Hampshire has the resources to fight regional transmission costs allocated to New Hampshire ratepayers. This bill comes after Governor Sununu’s veto of SB 167 last session which included these resources and would have created a study commission with the potential to reduce costs for New Hampshire ratepayers.

After the vote, prime sponsor Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord) issued the following statement:

“New Hampshire currently has the third highest electric bills in the nation, driven up by Governor Sununu’s vetoes of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and distributed generation. Following the governor’s veto of SB 167 last session it became clear that additional action was required to ensure we are seeking every possible solution to reduce costs for New Hampshire ratepayers. The Granite State Ratepayer Protection Act will make sure that we have the necessary advocates, attorneys, and experts to fight rate increases at the regional level.”
