CONCORD - Today, an omnibus health care amendment, co-sponsored by Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) and Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro), passed the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

After the committee vote, Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) issued the following statement:

“Public health and safety have been at the forefront of our discourse throughout the coronavirus pandemic. As we move forward to fully address the long term impacts of COVID-19, it is critical that we look at our health care system as a whole,” stated Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye). “For years, we have been working to combat New Hampshire’s opioid crisis. This amendment creates a drug overdose fatality review commission and opioid abatement trust fund so we as a state are able to gain a clearer picture of what works, and how we can expand treatment and recovery options.

New Hampshire’s long term health care is a many faceted entity. It is important that we continue to look at the sector as a whole, from tick-related illness, to dental services, to our “in and out” medical assistance policy. I am grateful to our Senate colleagues for continuing to look at the bigger picture of New Hampshire’s health and safety, especially as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic.”
