CONCORD - Today, the Senate passed HB 1375 as amended on a voice vote. HB 1375 establishes the elements of a claim for medical monitoring and the damages that may be awarded. The bill next goes to the House of Representatives for a concurrence vote.

After the vote, amendment sponsor Senator Shannon Chandley (D-Amherst) issued the following statement:

“As a state, we are taking steps to address the public health consequences caused by the contamination of our drinking and waste water by PFAS (perfluoroalkyl substances). These remediation efforts, while a critical step in the right direction, will not help those who have already been exposed to contamination and have developed the subsequent long-term health complications. HB 1375, as amended, gives those individuals a clear path towards monitoring compensation in the event of third party negligence, even without presenting illness at the time of the lawsuit. We must give Granite Staters who have been exposed to harmful chemicals, including PFAS or any other hazardous or toxic substance, the proper tools to monitor and address long-term health impacts.”
