Senate Majority Leader Condemns Sununu’s Vetoes

CONCORD - Today, the New Hampshire House and Senate took up the Governor’s most recent round of vetoes including paid family and medical leave, medical monitoring, state agency requests, and state employee death benefits.
Following the legislative sessions, Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord) issued this statement:
“Over the past two years, Governor Sununu has vetoed a record-breaking 79 pieces of legislation, 65 of which had bipartisan support. This year, in the middle of a global pandemic, Sununu vetoed over one-third of the bills sent to his desk, many helping working families, frontline workers, and small businesses. All but four of the vetoed bills this year had bipartisan support and included prime sponsored legislation from every Republican legislative leader. Sununu has told Republicans that votes on legislation are not about the issues or constituents, it’s about him and protecting his vetoes. That’s not public service. That’s not democracy. And that’s not the New Hampshire way. It is the job of every elected official to listen to their constituents and work to solve problems. That’s what the Legislature did, on a bipartisan basis. In response, Governor Sununu chose to silence the voices of Granite State voters, erase the hard work of bipartisan majorities, and just continue his press conferences and photo ops.”
