CONCORD - Today, House Republicans voted to sustain Governor Sununu’s veto of SB 159, the third bipartisan bill in as many years to expand renewable energy capacity in New Hampshire. Prior to the Governor’s veto, the bill passed through the House and Senate with sweeping bipartisan support. The Governor’s veto was overturned by the Senate in a bipartisan vote of 17-7.

After the vote, Senate Energy Chair Senator Martha Fuller Clark (D-Portmouth) issued the following statement:

“For the past three years, bipartisan lawmakers in the House and Senate have put forward legislation to expand net metering in New Hampshire, and for the past three years Governor Sununu has stood in the way. SB 159 - introduced by my Republican colleague Senator Jeb Bradley - reflected serious compromise from both Democrats and Republicans in order to address many of the Governor’s concerns. Despite their previous support for the initiative, House Republicans chose to play political games rather than help to ensure that municipalities, businesses, and individuals have the ability to choose their own energy futures, reduce energy costs, and reduce property taxes.”
