Senator Martha Fuller Clark
Senator Martha Fuller Clark is serving her fifth term after being elected in the fall of 2012. She previously served from 2005-2010 and currently represents District 21 which covers several Seacoast communities including Durham, Lee, Madbury, Newfields, Newington, and Newmarket, as well as her hometown of Portsmouth.
Her committee assignments for 2014-2015 include Energy & Natural Resources, Health & Human Services, and Rules, Enrolled Bills & Internal Affairs.
During previous terms in the Senate, she served as President Pro-Tem, and served as Chair of the Energy, Environment and Economic Development Committee, Vice Chair of Executive Departments and Administration Committee, and as a member of Education, Transportation and Interstate Commerce Committees. Before being elected to the Senate, Martha spent twelve years in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
The senator is currently Vice Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party and a member of Democratic National Committee, serving on the Resolutions Committee. In 2008, she was co-chair of the New Hampshire Committee to Elect Barack Obama President of the United States.
Martha participates on many different boards and commissions in her community. She presently serves as President of the Board of Strawbery Banke, as an advisor to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is the past President of Scenic America.
The senator earned a master’s degree in Art History from Boston University, and an undergraduate degree from Mills College in San Francisco. She was born and raised in York, Maine. Martha and her husband, Dr. Geoffrey Clark, have lived in Portsmouth since 1973 where they raised their three children, Caleb, Nathaniel and Anna.
