NH Senators Support Legislation to Protect NH Businesses

February 21, 2019

CONCORD, NH—Today the New Hampshire Senate passed SB 242, legislation that protects New Hampshire businesses from out of state jurisdictions attempting to impose a sales tax on these companies. The legislation was a result of the US Supreme Court South Dakota v. Wayfair decision. The New Hampshire Senate voted for the legislation 24-0. Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro), prime sponsor of the bill, and Senator Dan Feltes (D-Concord) issued the following statements:

“I am pleased the New Hampshire Senate has unanimously sent a message to out of state jurisdictions that New Hampshire is a sales tax free state and we will not subject our businesses to other state’s laws,” said Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro). “I applaud Governor Sununu and Attorney General MacDonald for working with the legislature to craft a bill with real protections for New Hampshire businesses. This bipartisan legislation went through a thorough vetting process and I believe we have come up with a product that will protect the New Hampshire Advantage. I look forward to working with our colleagues in Senate Finance and the House of Representatives to send this legislation to Governor Sununu’s desk for his signature.”

Senator Dan Feltes (D-Concord) added: “Small businesses are the backbone of New Hampshire’s economy—they do not have the time or resources to become tax collectors for other states. I appreciate all of the bipartisan work on this bill. Today’s strong bipartisan vote sends a clear message to small business owners that we’re working together to protect their interests in the Granite State.”
