Anti-Discrimination Protection for Students in Public Schools Passes NH House

CONCORD—Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted 214-143 in favor of SB 263, relative to anti-discrimination protection for students in public schools. The bill was recommended by the Governor’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion and would prohibit discrimination based on age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, marital status, familial status, physical or mental disability, religion, or national origin at the state level.

Prime sponsor Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) released the following statement after the vote:

“SB 263 ensures our schools become a safe and inclusive environment for all and gives students the protections they need and deserve against discrimination. This bill gives students the tools they need to hold people accountable for discrimination, allowing action at the state level by the student, the Attorney General or the New Hampshire Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Unit.”
