CONCORD – Today, the New Hampshire Senate rejected a Republic led effort to insert partisan politics in public education when they voted against adopting an amendment to require conservative political beliefs be taught within existing civics and economic curriculum.

After the vote, Senators David Watters (D-Dover) and Lou D’Allesandro (D-Manchester) issued the following statement:

“As the first-in-the-nation primary state, New Hampshire prides ourselves on civic engagement and all students now learn civics and economics, giving them the tools they need to be active citizens in our communities and our democracy. Today’s move by Senate Republicans to attempt to play politics with already established curriculum is nothing but a political distraction.”

Background:

In 2017 Senator D’Allesandro was the prime sponsor of SB 45, a bipartisan bill requiring a course in civics for high school graduation. That bill was signed into law by Governor Sununu on June 8, 2017.
