Senator Feltes Urges Governor Sununu to Sign SB 159, Bipartisan Net Metering Compromise

CONCORD - Today, SB 159, sponsored by Senator Jeb Bradley, was delivered to Governor Sununu; he now has five business days to sign or veto or it becomes law without his signature. SB 159 would raise the limit on net metering from 1 to 5 megawatts, significantly expanding the potential for solar energy in New Hampshire. SB 159 was amended in the House to require 50% of energy produced by the generator to be used on site, resulting in less energy being put back on the grid. Current statute sets that requirement at just 20%.
Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord) issued this statement:
“Governor Sununu spent 2019 vetoing bipartisan clean energy legislation, including net metering, but now he says he’s open to compromise. This bill, SB 159, sponsored by Senator Jeb Bradley, reflects a serious compromise from the House and Senate to address some of the governor’s concerns. If he truly plans to take positive action and give municipalities, businesses, and individuals the ability to choose their own energy futures, reduce energy costs, and reduce property taxes. I would urge him to sign SB 159, or allow it to pass into law without his signature. This is particularly important in advance of town meeting day where many local projects may be ready to go if Governor Sununu doesn’t stand in the way. ”
