CONCORD - Today, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee passed an omnibus amendment to HB 1264 to address PFAS contamination and drinking water safety, and extend the Seacoast cancer cluster study. The amendment was co-sponsored by Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) and Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro).

After the vote, Senator Tom Sherman issued the following statement:

“This bipartisan omnibus PFAS and drinking water safety bill is a win for New Hampshire. Today’s Committee vote is a vote to set clear guidelines on maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) based on the latest science from the NH Department of Environmental Services, provide relief to municipalities taking on remediation projects, ensure insurance coverage for PFAS and perfluorinated compound (PFC) blood testing, and extend the commission on the Seacoast cancer cluster to allow for their continued investigation through June 30, 2022.

The right to clean water is an issue that cuts across party lines and has had strong bipartisan support already by the Senate. As we move forward in our COVID-19 relief and recovery, it remains our responsibility to put a stop to exposure of these “forever chemicals” that can have long term and costly effects on public health.”
