CONCORD - Today, New Hampshire Senate Democrats announced a package of legislative reforms and initiatives to help New Hampshire through the relief and recovery efforts in response to the coronavirus--the Granite Promise Proposal. The package consists of three legislative amendments that will be heard this week before the Senate Commerce, Health and Human Services, and Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committees.

Senate President Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) and Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord) issued the following statements about the proposal:

“As we look towards New Hampshire’s future, we must address the needs of those who have been most affected by the impacts of the coronavirus, including working families, long term care facilities, and people experiencing homelessness,” Senate President Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) stated. “Increasing child care scholarships, funding for long-term care facilities, boosting homelessness programs, and creating a housing recovery fund are urgently needed ways we can use federal funds to support Granite Staters. This plan also introduces critical legislation to help cities and towns that have been unable to meet to approve local budgets and increases protections for workers returning to the job.”

Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord) added, “The Granite Promise Plan addresses both the immediate needs of New Hampshire workers, families, and communities, as well as the long term impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The measures include permanent increases to New Hampshire’s weekly unemployment insurance benefits, funds to shore up our unemployment trust fund, advances worker safety, supports family businesses, and improves computer systems and protections for homeowners and renters. In such unprecedented times, it is essential our state works together to protect public health and safety--and our economy--as we continue to combat this pandemic. Senate Democrats looking forward to working with our colleagues and the governor to move these critical initiatives forward.”
