CONCORD - Today, the Senate Commerce Committee passed Amendment #1364s to HB 685, which requires insurance plans which cover maternity benefits to provide coverage for emergency or elective abortion services. The amendment language is pulled from Senator Rosenwald’s bill, SB 486, which passed the Senate in March.

After the committee vote, the amendment’s sponsor Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement:

“Last session, Senate Democrats worked to enshrine essential health benefits of the Affordable Care Act into state law and require New Hampshire insurers to cover infertility diagnosis and treatment. The Reproductive Health Parity Act of 2020 continues to build upon that progress by guaranteeing full reproductive health care and reducing barriers for women when making their constitutionally protected decisions. This legislation is especially important in these uncertain economic times when the insurance market has been disrupted by COVID-19 and forthcoming rules from the Trump administration jeopardize access to safe, legal abortion care.”
