CONCORD - Today, HB 1665, a bipartisan bill to establish an independent advisory commission on redistricting, was signed by the Senate President. It will next be delivered to the Secretary of State before heading to the governor’s desk where he will have five business days to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature.

Senator Shannon Chandley (D-Amherst) issued the following statement in response:

“It is critical that our elections are dictated by the will of the voters, not by partisan politics. When we allow those seeking political gain to determine our districts, we become gerrymandered, and in turn silence the voices and will of Granite State voters. As we saw this weekend in Hopkinton, where a petition warrant article to support HB 1665 passed overwhelmingly in a vote of 843-128, there is broad bipartisan support for this commonsense measure that will increase accountability, transparency, and fairness in our election process. I urge the governor to sign HB 1665 and support a system that is fair, equitable, and allows voters to determine the future of our democracy.
