CONCORD - Today, SB 7, the Secure Modern Accurate Registration Technology (“SMART”) Act, was signed by the Senate President. It will next be delivered to the Secretary of State before heading to the governor’s desk where he will have five business days to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature.

Prime sponsor Senator Melanie Levesque (D-Brookline) issued the following statement in response:

“The SMART Act is an important step forward in modernizing New Hampshire’s elections and creating a system that is more accurate, secure, and accessible. By streamlining the registration process, we save our clerks and voters valuable time on election day and create a secure, modern, and accurate registration system that safeguards and improves access to our elections. As the first-in-the-nation state, that’s a goal we should all share and I urge the governor to sign SB 7 into law.”
