CONCORD - The recently released list of New Hampshire Nonprofit Emergency Relief Fund grantees revealed that Governor Chris Sununu awarded nearly $65,000 to a crisis pregnancy center in Rochester, as reported in The American Independent today. Crisis pregnancy centers provide prenatal advice and care from an anti-abortion perspective, often providing misleading, coercive, and inaccurate information that may delay or interfere with access to abortion and contraceptive services or improperly influence reproductive health decisions, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement in response:

“Governor Sununu should be working to ensure that CARES Act funds are used to protect Granite Staters and keep our nonprofits and small businesses afloat. Instead, he’s giving away thousands in taxpayer dollars to a crisis pregnancy center, which are overwhelmingly pseudo medical providers doling out misinformation about pregnancy options and attempt to dissuade women from seeking safe, legal abortion care.

While he claims to be “pro-choice”, time and again Sununu’s actions speak louder than words. He’s voted to defund Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, vetoed reproductive health parity legislation that would benefit low income patients, and now he’s bailing out crisis pregnancy centers. There are hundreds of health care organizations and nonprofits across the state that provide quality, comprehensive care struggling to keep their doors open during this pandemic. Instead of supporting them, Governor Sununu is taking a page out of President Trump’s book and using this crisis - and our tax dollars - to push an anti-choice agenda.”
