CONCORD – Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) and Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) comment on the passage of former Senator Robert Preston, who passed away on December 27th.

Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) and Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passage of former Senator Robert Preston of Hampton. Senator Preston served for 18 consecutive years in the Senate, beginning in 1972, including serving as Democratic Leader. His contributions to the state and his district were numerous and significant, including his work to help create the Pease Development Authority, which continues to greatly benefit the area to this day. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob’s family at this difficult time, and we will always be deeply grateful for his work and incredible service to the State of New Hampshire.”

Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) added: “I will greatly miss Senator Preston’s warmth, kindness, and his wonderful counsel about the issues facing our state. This is a great loss for all of us in the State of New Hampshire.”

Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) added: “Senator Bob has been a trusted advisor, mentor and dear friend. He made sure that I not only met, but got to know his family and close friends. His door was always open, resulting in some wonderful discussions and lots of laughs. While I will miss him deeply, I will always carry his love and dedication for the people of this great state with me.”
