CONCORD – Today, on a party-line vote of 3-2, Republican members of the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee voted to Interim Study Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka’s (D-Portsmouth) bill, SB 255, which would have established redistricting criteria to specifically prohibit partisan gerrymandering. The bill will next go before the Senate for a vote.
After the vote, Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka (D-Portsmouth) issued the following statement:
“I’m extremely disappointed that my Republican colleagues refused to support a prohibition on partisan gerrymandering. We have repeatedly heard the call for voters to pick their politicians, not the other way around. There is nothing left here to study. We know that gerrymandering silences voters from both political parties and I will continue to fight against blatant political power grabs that prioritize party over people.”
