CONCORD - Today, in a party-line vote of 13-10, Senate Republicans voted ITL on SB 252, Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy’s (D-Manchester) bill to require property tax bills to include information regarding the amount disbursed from the education trust fund in the prior fiscal year and the amount the municipality's education grant aid will be reduced as a result of the school voucher program.

After the vote, prime sponsor Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) issued the following statement:

“SB 252 was a simple bill about transparency. I am disappointed that my Republican colleagues do not believe that taxpayers deserve to know how much of their money is being diverted from public schools and instead being used to foot the bill for private and religious education. Today’s vote was simply further proof that Republicans are refusing to acknowledge the significant financial problems caused by their so-called “education freedom accounts” that will inevitably raise local property taxes.”
