CONCORD – Today, Senator Kevin Cavanaugh (D-Manchester) introduced SB 119, an act relative to the ordinary death benefit in the retirement system, to the Senate Finance Committee.
After the hearing, prime sponsor Senator Kevin Cavanaugh (D-Manchester) issued the following statement:
“In recent years, we have seen educators, firefighters, police officers die before they were able to complete paperwork to designate a retirement beneficiary in the event of their untimely death. If not for this paperwork issue, the spouse or child of the late teacher, firefighter or cop would be afforded the benefit to which their family has invested in the New Hampshire Retirement System. SB 119 corrects a clerical matter and ensures the families of those working on the front lines of our communities are given their earned benefit.”
