CONCORD – Today, Senator Lou D’Allesandro (D-Manchester) released the following statement in reaction to an armed mob’s invasion of the Capitol on January 6th, 2021:

“Yesterday the world watched as the fabric of our democracy came under attack. When riots broke out in our nation’s capital, we prayed for the safety of our friends and colleagues in Washington DC as they were evacuated under the threat of pipe bombs and gun shots. Family and friends from Italy and Northern Ireland reached out, horrified at what they were seeing. This is not a New Hampshire problem, this is a global problem. What we saw last night was the culmination of years of destructive and divisive rhetoric by a callous leader with no regard for the consequence of his actions. Despite this, Congress came back and finished the people’s work. Fear does not stop democracy. Intimidation does not stop democracy. As we begin to move forward as a nation, we do it with eyes wide open to the problems we face and the actions we must take to fix what has been broken.”
